Per the dictionary, Sustainability is “the quality of not being harmful to the environment or depleting natural resources, and thereby supporting long-term ecological balance.”  Our society is still trying to learn this concept.  As well as adapt to this practice.  Without sustainability in mind, our environment is set up for failure. Â
While attempting our best to be sustainable, we have to keep two main ideas in mind.  It is that we 1) have a social responsibility to 2) protect our environment.  That means it’s not just one person’s job to be sustainable.  It is the responsibility of every individual, country, and company to make sure they are doing their best to keep our planet clean.  And that means, protecting our planet from ailments that we introduce to it.  Sustainability needs to be a priority in all households, schools, businesses, governments, and especially land and parks.
When one thinks about sustainability, they might immediately think of how to fix it.  This includes the three R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  And yes, these are very important and valuable practices to try to return our planet back to it’s original state.  From this time forward, the three R’s will always be a part of our society. That is our responsibility. Our technology has advanced through the years, and continues to progress.  With this progression, we see manufacturing at it’s peak.  So with all the stuff that is out there, we need to be sure to use those three R’s as it comes to the end of it’s life cycle.
But, with more and more items that that come into play each year, we need to consider preventative action.  Instead of waiting for a device to come to the end of it’s life cycle, why not make things sustainable when they are in their design stage.  By taking sustainability into consideration while designing devices.  As you will see in this article, many factors can be taken into consideration so that we can invent and create while keeping sustainability in mind.
